About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Animal Care Specialist to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our farm operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of our animals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Animal Care and Husbandry: Feed, water, vaccinate, and perform general animal husbandry tasks, including basic veterinary procedures.
  • Facility Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the farm, including sanitizing and washing areas using high-pressure equipment.
  • Animal Movement and Handling: Assist in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flows.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate production information and update all department records as required.
  • Pharmaceutical Administration: Treat sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals by injection, oral application, and/or other methods as required.
  • Facility and Equipment Maintenance: Assist with facility and equipment maintenance, including laundry duties.
  • Animal Welfare: Follow the Company's animal welfare policies and procedures, including providing a physical environment that meets the animal's needs, providing access to adequate water and high-quality feed, and providing humane treatment of the animals.
  • Compliance: Responsible for complying with all environmental, safety, and biosecurity laws and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience: Previous livestock handling experience helpful.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to do hard physical labor, including lifting and moving up to 50 lbs.
  • Work Environment: Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a strong commitment to teamwork.
  • Communication: Ability to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations, as well as communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
