Overview:
UMC Health System is seeking a proficient full-time Neurosurgery Coder to enhance our specialized coding team.

In this role, the Neurosurgery Coder will meticulously review, assess, and validate the precision of diagnoses and procedures as documented by healthcare professionals.

The primary responsibilities include accurate coding and billing for both clinic and hospital procedures to ensure proper reimbursement, alongside timely filing and processing of insurance claims.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Hybrid position with 2-4 days in the office
  • Occasional evening work may be necessary at month or quarter end

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and assign CPT codes for diagnoses
  • Code outpatient and inpatient charges on a daily basis
  • Regularly monitor third-party payments
  • Investigate claim denials
  • Address billing inquiries from patients and insurers
  • Manage billing correspondence
  • Compile data and generate reports as required
  • Perform additional administrative tasks as directed

Additional Duties:
Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Understanding of medical operations and personnel management
  • Expertise in billing systems and procedures
  • Proficient in coding and medical terminology
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Active CPC Certification
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding systems
  • Over 2 years of experience in neurosurgery coding

Work Environment:
The Neurosurgery Coder operates in a well-lit, ventilated office setting. The environment is fast-paced and requires multitasking. Minimal exposure to bloodborne pathogens is expected.

Physical Requirements:
This position involves prolonged periods of sitting and requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for operating office equipment. Normal hearing and vision are necessary for effective communication and reporting.
