- The Patient Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for managing requests to schedule and process orders for various clinical services. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all customer interactions adhere to the established service standards and quality metrics. The Coordinator evaluates customer inquiries and facilitates effective communication between departments. They provide precise triage requests following approved protocols and direct relevant requests to the appropriate clinical teams.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee multi-facility and multi-resource scheduling for a variety of clinical services, including diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, and specialty care.
- Ensure the accuracy of patient information and insurance details while adhering to strict privacy regulations.
- Obtain necessary insurance authorizations and manage legal and billing information as required.
- Collaborate with clinical departments to accommodate urgent requests and arrange for interpreter services when necessary.
- Utilize electronic medical records (EMR) and information technology systems to retrieve prior results and maintain accurate documentation.
- Input ICD-10 codes and validate their appropriateness based on medical necessity standards.
- Handle all communications with patients and healthcare providers, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Regularly monitor call queues to meet call center performance standards and review orders for compliance with protocols.
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, with familiarity in scheduling and admitting functions.
- Education: A minimum of a high school diploma is required, with two years of college or equivalent experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary. Proficiency in basic computer applications and typing is required. The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining composure in high-pressure situations.
- Demonstrated customer service orientation and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams are essential for success in this role.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
