Position Overview

New Life Center is in search of a dedicated Thrift Store Customer Service Representative for Hope's Closet, someone who is enthusiastic about retail services and committed to the mission of aiding in the eradication of domestic and sexual violence through various support services, education, and expertise. Hope's Closet, managed by New Life Center, serves two key functions: it provides free clothing, household items, and furniture to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking, and it ensures that all retail sales contribute directly to the support of New Life Center's programs.

Role Summary:

The Thrift Store Customer Service Representative at Hope's Closet is tasked with delivering exceptional customer service and retail support while embodying the mission, vision, and values of New Life Center. Responsibilities include organizing, sorting, maintaining store presentation, and pricing donations received at the donation center. The representative will also engage with customers, respond to inquiries, and assist with transactions as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist customers with their purchases and provide information regarding merchandise or store policies in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Support donors during donation drop-offs and ensure efficient processing of donations.
  • Act as a passionate advocate for the mission, vision, and core values of New Life Center, which include compassion, resilience, equity, and community.
Essential Duties:
  1. Welcome each customer warmly and assist them as needed.
  2. Provide assistance with purchases and address inquiries about merchandise or store policies professionally.
  3. Respond to phone inquiries with a focus on high-quality customer service.
  4. Coordinate donation pick-up arrangements when necessary.
  5. Maintain vigilance throughout the store to prevent theft.
  6. Ensure the store is visually appealing and that merchandise is easily accessible.
  7. Provide coverage for colleagues during breaks as needed.
  8. Keep accurate records as required.
Cashier Responsibilities:
  1. Utilize the assigned cashier code to operate the cash register and complete all related documentation accurately.
  2. Prepare daily register reports at the end of business hours.
  3. Report any discrepancies to the Store Enterprise Manager promptly.
  4. Conduct each in-store transaction in a professional manner.
  5. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the register area.
Donation Center Responsibilities:
  1. Assist donors and ensure they receive a donation receipt.
  2. Efficiently process donations by sorting, pricing, and organizing items.
  3. Maintain a friendly and positive demeanor towards customers and donors.
  4. Keep the donation room and external donation area organized, clean, and safe.
  5. Ensure the dumpster area is cleaned daily.
  6. Assist in transferring items from the donation room to the sales floor as needed.
Team Collaboration:
  1. Engage as an active member of the Hope's Closet Team.
  2. Share responsibility for the cleanliness and appearance of the entire store and surrounding areas.
  3. Communicate any emergencies, customer concerns, or organizational needs to the Store Enterprise Manager or appropriate leadership member.
  4. Work collaboratively with a diverse group of staff and New Life Center residents who may have experienced trauma.
  5. Possess basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Contribute to fostering a culture of cooperation and collaboration among staff, interns, and volunteers.
  2. Adhere to all policies regarding participant and program confidentiality.
  3. Actively support New Life Center's trauma-informed philosophy.
  4. Participate in scheduled agency-wide meetings and events as assigned.
  5. Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:Required:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Valid driver's license and insurance, with access to reliable transportation.
  3. Ability to obtain Level 1 fingerprint clearance.
  4. Negative TB test required.
  5. COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption.
Preferred:
  1. One or more years of experience in a retail or sales environment.
  2. Experience in a thrift store within a human services agency.
  3. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
