Hope's Closet serves two essential functions: providing free clothing, household items, and furniture to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, and utilizing retail sales to fund New Life Center's programs.

Key Responsibilities:
The Thrift Store Attendant will deliver exceptional customer service and retail assistance, embodying the mission, vision, and values of New Life Center. Responsibilities include organizing and sorting donations, maintaining store presentation, and pricing items effectively. The Attendant will also engage with customers, respond to inquiries, and facilitate checkout processes as required.

Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 8:45 AM - 5:15 PM

Primary Duties:

  • Assist customers with purchases and provide information about merchandise and store policies in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Support donors during donation drop-offs and ensure efficient processing of donations.
  • Actively promote New Life Center's mission and core values of compassion, resilience, equity, and community.
Essential Functions:
Responsibilities Include:
  1. Welcome each customer warmly and assist them with their needs.
  2. Provide professional assistance with purchases and address customer inquiries regarding merchandise and store operations.
  3. Respond to phone inquiries with a focus on high-quality customer service.
  4. Coordinate donation pick-up arrangements as necessary.
  5. Monitor store areas to prevent theft.
  6. Maintain a tidy store environment, ensuring merchandise is accessible.
  7. Offer support to colleagues during breaks.
  8. Keep accurate records as required.
Cashier Responsibilities:
  1. Utilize the assigned cashier code to operate the cash register and complete related paperwork accurately.
  2. Prepare daily register reports at the end of business hours.
  3. Report any discrepancies to the Store Enterprise Manager promptly.
  4. Conduct each transaction with professionalism.
  5. Maintain cleanliness in the register area.
Donation Center Responsibilities:
  1. Assist donors and ensure they receive a donation receipt.
  2. Efficiently process donations by sorting, pricing, and organizing items.
  3. Maintain a positive and friendly demeanor towards customers and donors.
  4. Ensure the donation area is organized, clean, and safe.
  5. Keep the dumpster area clean on a daily basis.
  6. Help transfer items from the donation area to the sales floor as needed.
Team Collaboration:
  1. Engage as an active member of the Hope's Closet Team.
  2. Share responsibility for the cleanliness and appearance of the store and its surroundings.
  3. Communicate any emergencies, customer concerns, or organizational needs to the Store Enterprise Manager or appropriate leadership.
  4. Work collaboratively with a diverse team, including New Life Center residents who have experienced trauma.
  5. Demonstrate basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Contribute to a culture of cooperation among staff, interns, and volunteers.
  2. Adhere to all policies regarding confidentiality of participants and programs.
  3. Support New Life Center's trauma-informed approach.
  4. Participate in scheduled agency-wide meetings and events as assigned.
  5. Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Required:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Valid driver's license and insurance, with access to reliable transportation.
  3. Ability to obtain Level 1 fingerprint clearance.
  4. Negative TB test.
  5. COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption.
Preferred:
  1. One or more years of experience in a retail or sales environment.
  2. Experience in a thrift store setting within a human services organization.
  3. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
