Job Title: Special Education Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Easterseals New York. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in designing and implementing a classroom program that meets the unique needs of our students.

Job Summary:

The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for creating a motivating and stimulating classroom environment that fosters academic and personal growth. You will work closely with the School Administrator and designated staff to develop and implement lesson plans, maintain progress scales, and attend case conferences. Your expertise will be essential in implementing behavioral systems, ensuring accurate attendance records, and submitting monthly reports.

Responsibilities:
  • Design a classroom environment that promotes student engagement and motivation.
  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans, ensuring accessibility for students in case of unexpected absences.
  • Maintain progress scales for each student and participate in case conferences.
  • Implement behavioral systems and protocols as approved by the treatment team.
  • Ensure accurate attendance records and submit reports as required.
  • Attend school-specific and Agency-related staff and parent meetings.
  • Supervise students at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Develop a working relationship with assigned professionals and the coordinator of therapeutic classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team regarding student treatment and diagnostic information.
  • Participate in community orientation and workshops.
  • Organize and supervise extracurricular activities.
  • Supervise assigned aides and transport students as needed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Eligibility for teacher certification or enrollment in a Master's degree program leading to certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Meet minimum requirements of the appropriate State Board of Education.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
