Lecturer - Performance Studies, Summer Session

The Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Lecturer in Performance Studies with a focus on New Media and Performance. This is a part-time, 11% time appointment for Summer Session C, June 23 - August 15, 2025, with the possibility of renewal for subsequent summers.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will teach an asynchronous online course, Theater 118AC - Performance, Television, and Social Media, which examines the intersections of performance and media, specifically television and social media in the U.S. The course will focus on how various types of difference are enacted, articulated, represented, and played on TV and social media platforms.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with the TDPS Department Manager and Chair on hiring Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs) for the course
- Customize the syllabus bCourses site with any year-specific information
- Train and manage the course GSIs
- Launch and manage the course during Summer Session C
- Communicate with DSP students enrolled in the course and implement accommodations
- Communicate regularly with all students enrolled in the course regarding requirements and deadlines
- Calculate and submit final grades at the conclusion of Summer Session C
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Performance Studies or a related field, with a background in Performance Studies and New Media intersections. Experience creating lectures and content for online courses in the university setting is also preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to advancing equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service.
