Job Summary

The Operations and Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician III to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional maintenance and repair services to support the medical campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as primary Building Services contact for assigned areas, prioritizing work and making an initial assessment of conditions and service needs.
  • Plan and complete repairs/installation of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems for short-range projects.
  • Estimate labor time, requisition materials needed, and request other maintenance staff assistance for long-range projects.
  • Monitor outside service schedules and equipment installation by outside contractors.
  • Monitor service schedules/coordinate any interruptions in service (utility outages).
  • Interface with customers to schedule/coordinate any interruptions in service (utility outages).
  • Follow through on work in progress to verify proper facility conditions are restored.
  • Perform a variety of tasks involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.
  • Keep Building Services supervisors aware of facility conditions, problems, and needs.
  • Maintain effective communication with other Facility Maintenance Coordinators and other maintenance staff.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
  • Three years of related experience in a skilled trade function or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.
  • Must obtain Valid Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D Driver's license within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Vocational training.
  • Advancement from the lower-level position at Washington University.
  • Demonstrate our PRIDE Core Values (Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence) in all aspects of the position.
  • Ability to diagnose/resolve varied maintenance problems involving HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and similar conditions.
  • Resolves maintenance problems in a timely manner to avoid disruption/delay in the work environment for staff or the public.
  • Must be able to lift and carry tools and material weighing more than 50 pounds and raise and carry with assistance items weighing 200 pounds. Climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, and crouches to gain access to pipes, wiring, and equipment.
  • Handles a variety of hand and power tools. Needs near-visual acuity to read equipment and diagrams and inspect parts.
  • Depth perception, field of vision, and color vision are needed to fit and install parts.
  • Good customer service skills and the ability to communicate with diverse groups of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform varied maintenance tasks.
  • Demonstrated proficiency to perform the position being filled.
