Job Summary

The Facilities Specialist is responsible for performing basic maintenance work, including event setup and teardown, basic plumbing, electrical, and preventive maintenance duties. This role also involves assisting with maintaining the campus grounds and facilities by supporting outdoor and lawn contractors with trash pickup, snow removal, glass cleaning, and dock area maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete assigned work orders and report needed repairs to the supervisor.
  • Assist with event setup and teardown, including seating, tables, stages, and class setups.
  • Perform basic plumbing work, including replacing washers in valves, opening clogged drains, and stopped-up toilets.
  • Perform basic electrical work, including replacing light bulbs, faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, and other simple electrical elements.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs by performing tasks such as replacing batteries in door crash bars, automated faucets, and HVAC filters.
  • Assist with groundskeeping, including inventory and cleaning snow removal equipment, and assist with snow removal during inclement weather.
  • Operate various types of mechanized cleaning equipment, including vacuums, polishers, buffers, and strip and recoat floor areas as needed.
  • Maintain facilities in a sanitary and infection-free condition by washing, cleaning, and replacing equipment and furnishings.
  • Plan, coordinate, and assign special duties and tasks to housekeepers.
  • Assist with management of recycling efforts on the campus.
  • Handle various cleaning solvents and chemicals, and comply with regulations such as OSHA, EPA, and State Health Department.
  • Contribute to an accident-free work environment by following safety protocols, wearing personal protective equipment, and reporting incidents.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with equipment, machinery, lawn, and snow removal equipment.
  • Experience in housekeeping.
  • Understanding of different uses of janitorial supplies.
  • Understanding of basic mechanic and electrical systems.
  • Strong customer service approach and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis.
