Overview of the

Controls Systems Specialist:
In this role, you will evaluate control and electrical engineering specifications to devise and implement technical and business solutions for initiatives requiring capital allocation. You will establish success criteria for system requirements and select equipment that aligns with optimal cost, timeline, and performance objectives. Your responsibilities will include developing standards, methodologies, and designs for control and electrical equipment to ensure compliance with quality and safety regulations, particularly in processing, filling, and packaging sectors. Collaboration within a technical team environment is essential.

Key Responsibilities of the

Controls Systems Specialist:


  • Oversee project execution from inception to completion.
  • Create comprehensive project submittal packages to facilitate successful outcomes.
  • Assess physical location and general arrangement placements (drawing level); evaluate infrastructure requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Engineering Manager and Project Manager to establish preliminary Capital/Expense Estimates.
  • Work alongside the Engineering Project Manager to develop a design timeline that aligns with overall project schedule requirements and equipment/system performance criteria.
  • Draft detailed functional control/electrical descriptions for unit operations.
  • Independently manage and coordinate projects.
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration.
  • Engage in experimental trials within the plant.
  • Present technical findings to supervisors through both written and oral communication.
  • Develop, interpret, and issue technical specifications.
  • Cultivate subject matter expertise in processing, filling, and packaging operating systems for designated areas.
  • Maintain a foundational understanding of food manufacturing environments.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in food packaging technology and commercial applications.

Qualifications & Experience of the

Controls Systems Specialist:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Robotics Engineering with a focus on control systems for processing/packaging/filling equipment design/electrical.
  • Emphasis on Controls Engineering is essential.
  • 2-7 years of experience in control system design.
  • A background in food manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD software and electrical schematics.
  • Technical knowledge of manufacturing systems and equipment.
  • Experience with Rockwell Controls and/or GE, along with networking expertise.
  • Ability to navigate a complex facility with extensive automation and upcoming AI technology projects.
  • Detail-oriented with strong teamwork capabilities.
