About the Organization

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is a nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, collaborating with the Presidio Trust, partners, donors, and the community to support the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). The GGNRA spans three Bay Area counties north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge, featuring iconic places such as Muir Woods National Monument, Fort Point National Historic Site, Alcatraz Island, Crissy Field, Mori Point, Lands End, and the Presidio of San Francisco.

About the Role

The Director of Facilities and Fleet is a key member of the Operations Branch team, responsible for the effective management of the Parks Conservancy's facilities and fleet. This includes leading the Facilities and Fleet unit within the Operations Branch, partnering with the Chief Operations Officer and other members of the Operations Branch to lead facilities and fleet strategies, services, and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities Financial Management and Administration: Track progress and overall budget for all projects undertaken, with project budgets ranging from $50K to $5 million. Prepare and oversee department budget; develop additional project budgets as needed. Allocate resources to maintain properties and assets. Ensure budget allocations are accurately distributed by site/branch and reflect organizational priorities.
  • Fleet: Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Parks Conservancy-owned fleet of 15 and 18 leased GSA vehicles while maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Ensure routine maintenance schedules are adhered to. Develop and enforce safety protocols for drivers. Optimize the number of vehicles in the fleet for efficiency and cost savings.
  • Supervision and Leadership: Lead, train, and direct the efforts of the Facilities and Fleet staff and associated vendors or contractors. Manage a team of 2-4 full-time staff. Ensure team members understand both day-to-day responsibilities and the role of the department as it relates to the effective operations and strategic direction of the Parks Conservancy and the needs of agency partners.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in applying theories, principles, practices, and techniques of maintenance management of buildings, associated utilities, grounds, and other miscellaneous facilities.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with a variety of people, inclusive of different backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, ages, and viewpoints.
  • Knowledge and ability to prepare an annual financial plan, cyclic and rehabilitation work programs, and input to related management systems.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes, systems, and safety practices, including OSHA.
  • Track record of completing facilities-related work on time and within or below budget.
  • High emotional intelligence and collaborative leadership skills, including the ability to address conflict.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing a diverse and interdisciplinary staff towards effective results and professional development.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
Benefits and Location

The Parks Conservancy provides its employees with a competitive salary that is benchmarked with other non-profit organizations in the Bay Area. Benefits include a competitive suite of medical, dental, and vision plans, up to 3 weeks' paid vacation plus one week of personal days, plus holiday (11) and sick days (12). This position is full-time, and you must already be based in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area. This position requires at least 2 days per week onsite (ideally 3 days), either in office (Fort Mason) or visiting our employees on location at our incredible park sites (for example, Alcatraz, Muir Woods, and Crissy Field).
