Location: Hartford, Connecticut
Salary: $65-75K plus bonus
Overview of the Service Technician Role: We are seeking a dedicated Service Technician who excels in independent work, possesses strong customer interaction skills, and is capable of producing technical documentation. This role involves collaborating with the Engineering team to provide insights for product enhancements within the Product Development Group. The Service Technician will be tasked with the autonomous assembly, commissioning, inspection, repair, and troubleshooting of systems, both nationally and internationally.
Key Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years in a Field Service position with decision-making authority
- Certification or degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering
- Willingness to travel approximately 70% of the time (domestic and international)
- Proficient in drafting trip reports, return material authorizations, test reports, and corrective action reports
- Strong knowledge of PLCs is highly preferred
- Ability to interpret and troubleshoot systems using electrical schematics
- Proficient in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Possession of a clean driving record
- Comfortable working at heights
· Experience with PLCs, VFDs, data acquisition, wiring, power equipment, and industrial electricity is essential. Familiarity with Siemens, ABB, and TMEiC platforms is highly desirable.
· Must currently hold or be able to secure a valid passport for international travel.
Responsibilities of the Service Technician:
· Regularly engage with customers, end-users, vendors, and contractors.
· Assist in scheduling and coordinating site participation for final equipment installation inspections and startup activities.
· Ensure timely responses to customer inquiries through internal coordination.
· Troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, and other automated systems, both on-site and remotely.
· Conduct repairs on equipment at customer facilities, addressing both warranty and non-warranty claims.
· Perform routine inspections of existing system installations.
· Take responsibility for the accurate execution of pre-commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation disciplines, ensuring quality in both work and reporting.
· Travel to customer sites for final commissioning and to demonstrate equipment functionalities to secure customer acceptance.
· Support project teams in clearing and signing off on all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation punch list items as per project specifications.
· Participate in project and construction meetings as necessary.
· Prepare and deliver technical training to end-user operators and maintenance personnel.
· As a troubleshooter, respond on-site to technical issues, analyze and resolve faults, and remain available for subsequent technical inquiries.
· Independently manage all site visit details with customers and/or end-users prior to departure.
· Coordinate all travel arrangements, including airfare, lodging, and ground transportation.
· Provide direct technical support to customers, contractors, sales, and engineering teams for testing and field service operations.
