Peanut Grading Equipment Technician

Job Responsibilities
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Equipment Maintenance Technician/Peanut Inspector. This position is essential in servicing and maintaining peanut grading machinery, ensuring compliance with established specifications and tolerances. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting evaluations to verify that equipment meets required standards.
- Replacing or repairing components as necessary.
- Prioritizing and responding to service requests efficiently.
- Assisting in managing an inventory of equipment, including electrical motors, sizing screens, and peanut counters.
- Performing peanut inspection and sampling duties.
- Providing support in the grinding room as required.
This role is physically demanding and may require overtime and irregular hours, including night shifts, weekends, and holidays, particularly at local peanut processing facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should possess knowledge and experience as a mechanic, machinist, or installer and repairer of various equipment types. Advanced skills in equipment maintenance and repair are essential. Familiarity with manufacturing, production, quality control, or agricultural practices, especially related to the peanut sector, is advantageous. However, candidates willing to learn federal and state regulations will receive necessary training. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required, along with strong customer service skills to effectively communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Additional Considerations
Relevant training, certifications, or coursework, combined with experience in a warehousing or agricultural setting, or in a federal or state inspection program, is preferred. Experience with peanut grading equipment is also beneficial. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
