Job Responsibilities

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated professional for the role of Equipment Maintenance Technician/Peanut Inspector. This position is integral in servicing and maintaining peanut grading machinery, ensuring compliance with established specifications and tolerances. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting evaluations to confirm that equipment meets operational standards.
  • Replacing or repairing components as required.
  • Prioritizing and responding to service requests efficiently.
  • Assisting in the management of an inventory that includes equipment, electrical motors, sizing screens, peanut counters, and various parts.
  • Performing peanut inspection and sampling duties, along with supporting operations in the grinding room as necessary.

This role demands physical stamina and may require overtime and irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift work at the local peanut shelling facility may also be part of the responsibilities.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • Experience as a mechanic, machinist, or installer with a strong background in equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, production, quality control, or agricultural practices, particularly in relation to the peanut sector, is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • The ability to interpret complex USDA/State manuals and organize daily tasks with minimal supervision.
  • A high school diploma or GED.

Additional Considerations

Relevant training, certifications, or coursework, along with experience in warehousing or agricultural settings, are preferred. Experience with peanut grading equipment is also beneficial. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
