Key Responsibilities:

As a Maintenance Crew Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading a team in performing a variety of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks essential for the upkeep of Virginia's road infrastructure.

Core Duties Include:

  • Documentation Management: Prepare and maintain essential program and project documentation. Assist in budget report preparation and track expenditures, recommending adjustments as necessary.
  • Leadership: Conduct on-the-job training for crew members and provide constructive feedback on performance. Assist with administrative tasks and represent the team at meetings.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Oversee and perform maintenance and repairs, ensuring all vehicles and equipment undergo pre-trip inspections.
  • Traffic Management: Implement traffic control measures during maintenance operations, including the installation and removal of traffic signs and flagging to ensure safety.
  • Equipment Operation: Demonstrate expertise in the safe operation of all equipment, applying specialized knowledge to perform complex tasks and instructing crew members on maintenance and repairs.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations and train crew members in proper safety methods, maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Emergency Response: Prepare for and operate equipment during emergency situations, including snow and ice removal, while providing traffic control.
  • Manual Labor: Actively participate in manual labor and maintenance tasks to achieve project goals.
  • Work Scheduling: Organize work assignments based on priority and ensure tasks are completed within established time frames.
  • Performance Monitoring: Document daily crew activities and monitor contractor performance, ensuring compliance with project standards.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess the ability to interpret work zone safety manuals, lead and train others, and have a solid understanding of highway maintenance practices. A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, along with the ability to perform heavy manual labor and operate various tools and equipment.

Additional Considerations:

Experience in report preparation, inventory management, and emergency operations is preferred. Relevant licenses and certifications, including CPR and traffic control safety, are essential for this role.

Note: This position is designated as essential, requiring availability during emergencies, including weekends and holidays.
