Position Overview

Utilize hand-welding or flame-cutting tools to join metal parts or to repair defects in fabricated metal products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and employ safe working practices.
  • Execute welding tasks in various positions including flat, vertical, and overhead.
  • Initiate welding processes by igniting torches or powering equipment, ensuring proper electrical connections.
  • Secure and align component parts for welding through clamping, tack-welding, and other methods.
  • Identify equipment malfunctions or material defects and communicate findings to supervisors.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding machinery to fuse metal sections using techniques such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, and others.
  • Oversee the fitting, burning, and welding operations to prevent overheating or material distortion.
  • Inspect workpieces for imperfections and utilize measuring tools to confirm compliance with specifications.
  • Recognize and operate hand and power tools typical in the welding industry.
  • Prepare and secure parts and assemblies prior to welding using appropriate measuring instruments.
  • Perform additional related tasks as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not mandatory.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience or vocational training preferred, but not essential.
  • Must remain in the position for a minimum of two (2) years based on prior experience before advancing to Welder II.
  • Understanding of customer service principles and practices.
  • Ability to handle confidential information sensitively.
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Mental and Physical Requirements:

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Strong physical and mental stamina to manage a demanding workload.
  • Able to perform under pressure when necessary.
  • Capability to navigate stairs and work at various heights.
  • Skilled in using hands and arms for handling, installing, and positioning materials.
  • Willingness to wear necessary protective equipment including safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and welding gear.
  • Position may require extended hours and frequent overtime based on workload.
  • Some weeks may involve working six days, with time off scheduled according to workload and staff availability.
  • Demonstrates strong work ethics, integrity, and a commitment to excellence in all tasks.
  • Observes and gathers information from various sources.
  • Identifies and categorizes information, recognizing differences and changes in circumstances.
  • Analyzes data and evaluates outcomes to determine optimal solutions.
  • Resolves minor conflicts and issues as they arise.
  • Dependable and reliable in fulfilling responsibilities.
