Position Summary:

Under general supervision, this role involves the thorough cleaning of the interiors of transit buses and other vehicles, along with additional responsibilities as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts cleaning of the interior of transit buses, which includes floors, seats, side panels, overhead panels, and windows utilizing appropriate cleaning tools and supplies.
  • Examines the interior of buses for issues such as damaged seats, loose handrails, passenger-related incidents, damaged advertising materials, and any apparent mechanical defects, reporting findings to the Lead Cleaner or designated personnel.
  • Alerts the Maintenance Supervisor or designated authority to any unsafe practices or conditions observed.
  • Removes stains and graffiti, deodorizes and disinfects bus interiors, and clears litter from the vehicle's interior.
  • Maintains and updates decals on buses, replaces information posters as instructed, and checks the operator compartment for necessary supplies and equipment, replenishing as needed.
  • Safely moves District vehicles from the parking area to the cleaning bay and returns them post-cleaning.
  • Accurately keeps daily cleaning logs and records.

  • Static Strength - Capacity to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
  • Trunk Strength - Ability to utilize abdominal and lower back muscles to support body parts repeatedly over time without fatigue.
  • Extent Flexibility - Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with various body parts.
  • Manual Dexterity - Skill in moving hands or arms quickly to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

Qualifications:

Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job is acceptable, typically including:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of one year of professional cleaning or janitorial experience, with preference for experience in vehicle detailing.
  • A valid driver's license and a driving record that meets the District's insurance requirements.

Compensation and Work Schedule:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position eligible for the standard benefits package. The starting pay rate is competitive. Work is conducted during nighttime hours in both internal and external environments, with exposure to various weather conditions and challenging situations. Equipment used includes transit buses, forklifts, and a two-way radio system.
