The **Safety Compliance Officer** role is pivotal in fostering a secure working environment and promoting a culture of safety by assisting in: the oversight of the safety program; the formulation, communication, and advocacy of our safety policies; conducting inspections of operations and fleet; evaluating risks associated with company operations and fleet while proposing strategies to mitigate those risks; ensuring adherence to relevant government regulations (such as OSHA, ANSI, MSHA);

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee Hugg & Hall's safety program

  • Conduct branch visits to assess compliance with safety policies - 30% travel required
  • Support all accident investigations and identify root causes
  • Document unsafe practices and issue warnings for personnel files
  • Propose safety enhancements and ensure follow-up on implementations
  • Maintain and update our Safety Management System
  • Report all workers' compensation claims and investigations for designated locations to the HSE Director
  • Assist in managing the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) system
  • Track Safety Tasks assigned to each branch/department
  • Provide operational training for mobile equipment as necessary.
Formulate, communicate, and advocate for our safety policies/programs
  • Recommend improvements to our safety policy manuals
  • Facilitate safety meetings
  • Assist in preparing monthly safety discussions
  • Listen to employee feedback and address valid concerns
  • Familiarize with our policies/programs
  • Respond promptly to inquiries regarding safety
  • Assist in preparing for supervisor department meetings as needed
  • Maintain regular communication with managers and supervisors on safety issues
Inspect operations and vehicle fleet
  • Conduct scheduled inspections, including quarterly safety audits of facilities
  • Monitor for unsafe behaviors and conditions during daily operations
  • Assist in branch-specific inspections for accuracy and completion
Evaluate risks associated with company operations
  • Gather all relevant information to suggest improvements
  • Travel to locations for oversight in injury management processes as necessary based on incident severity
Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, and EPA regulations
  • Stay updated on regulations applicable to company operations
  • Conduct or arrange necessary training as mandated by regulations
Manage and coordinate facility issues and repairs
  • Collaborate with management to identify and report facility concerns
  • Engage with approved vendors for issue resolution
  • Assist in vendor approval and repair coordination
  • Support vendor invoicing and coding for accounts payable
Qualifications:
Required Skills/Experience
Minimum of 3 years' experience in safety compliance preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all levels
Proficient computer skills with the ability to adapt to various platforms
Strong research skills to interpret government regulations
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively
Capability to multitask and meet deadlines
Comfortable working in an environment with frequent interruptions

Education
College degree or equivalent work experience
Degree with a focus on safety preferred

Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
This position involves working in operational facilities and outdoors, traveling to various company operational sites. Employees will encounter diverse weather conditions and temperatures. Normal auto hazards apply. Travel is a requirement.

This role continuously requires communication; regular sitting, standing, walking, or climbing; and frequent use of a computer keyboard while reading the screen.

Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.

Position requires driving to and from assigned locations and customer sites.

This role is classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with relevant medical marijuana regulations.
