Job Title: Director of Development

Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and self-starting fundraiser to join our team as a Director of Development. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our students, faculty, and staff.

The Director of Development will play a central role in developing philanthropic support through the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of alumni/trainees of the VCU School of Medicine, VCU School of Public Health, and VCU Basic Health Science Departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of major gift and leadership annual gift prospects
  • Solicit gifts at the major gifts level (at or above $50K) through personal appointments, calls, and correspondence
  • Travel to assigned state, regional, and national metro areas to engage with donors
  • Maximize the dean's participation in fundraising and engagement efforts
  • Develop and track metrics for accountability and evaluation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, ethics, and practices of successful fundraising
  • Outgoing and positive personality, strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative working style
  • Strong written, oral, and data-analysis skills
  • Familiarity with technology, software, and digital tools to communicate and engage with others

Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in a related field, three or more years of professional fundraising experience, and demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure gifts.
