Job Title: Emergency Veterinary Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our team at VCA Veterinary Emergency and Veterinary Specialty Center in Madison, WI.

Job Summary:

The Emergency Veterinary Technician will play a crucial role in providing high-quality emergency care to animals in need. This includes performing initial assessments, assisting veterinarians with exams and treatments, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform initial assessments to evaluate patient condition quickly, including checking vital signs and gathering information from pet owners.
  • Assist veterinarians with exams, treatments, and medical procedures for emergency cases.
  • Proficiently perform venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement.
  • Safely and accurately administer fluids, medications, and other treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Work in conjunction with all technical staff across the hospital to ensure hospitalized patients receive optimal care.
  • Vigilantly monitor hospitalized patients, recognizing subtle changes in their clinical status and promptly reporting any concerns to the veterinary team.
  • Provide clear and concise discharge instructions to clients, ensuring they understand the care their furry family member requires after leaving the hospital.
  • Maintain accurate records, including patient history, treatment details, and client communication.
Qualifications:
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or internship trained.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced and often high-stress environment.
