Position Overview
The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is seeking a Clinical Support Technician I to fulfill a vital role within our healthcare team. This position encompasses responsibilities of both a Nursing Assistant I and a Health Unit Coordinator (Clerical).
The MICU is a 30-bed critical care unit dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients with severe medical and pulmonary conditions. Our unit is experiencing a significant increase in oncology patients, allowing staff to gain valuable experience in oncology critical-care subspecialties. We pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative environment focused on continuous education and professional growth.
*This role is eligible for our Nursing Support Incentive Program, which offers $5,000 distributed over a three-year commitment.
Work Schedule: This position requires a commitment of 36 hours per week, with 12-hour rotating shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am), including weekends and holidays. An extensive benefits package is available, including PTO hours accrued based on hours worked. Attendance at a weeklong hospital orientation is mandatory, offered bi-weekly.
Orientation Schedule: Monday and Tuesday - In-person from 8am to 4pm; Wednesday - 8am to 10am Virtual and in-person from 1pm to 5pm; Thursday and Friday - Virtual.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist healthcare professionals during routine examinations and procedures, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
2. Review patient care documentation critically, noting significant changes in patient conditions and reporting them to a registered nurse or physician immediately.
3. Perform various clerical tasks, including organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting visitors, researching information for healthcare providers, reviewing orders for accuracy, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records. Conduct routine quality assurance audits and manage supply inventory.
4. Provide clinical support, including maintaining a clean work environment, troubleshooting equipment issues, changing linens, checking supply levels, and assisting in the orientation of new staff.
5. Deliver direct personal care to patients as outlined in their care plans, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility. Measure and record vital signs, height, and weight, and may perform specimen collection and basic wound care.
6. Reinforce patient education provided by registered nurses or physicians and document patient comprehension of instructions.
Education:
● High School diploma or GED required.
Licensure/Certification:
● Must be listed on the Nurse Aide I Registry with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
● Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification is required.
Experience:
● One year of clerical or customer service experience and six months of relevant nursing assistant experience, which may include a nursing assistant course or a combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills:
● Proficiency in verbal and written English is essential. Ability to develop computer skills if not already competent.
