Work Hours: 7:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Monday - Friday)

Key Responsibilities

The K-8 Counselor plays a vital role in promoting self-awareness among students, guiding them in understanding themselves, others, and their surroundings. The counselor provides essential tools and resources for social-emotional learning and development, while also advising faculty and families on supporting student well-being and mental health.

Essential Duties:

  • Student Support: Engage with students in various settings, including group sessions, small groups, and individual meetings.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with classroom teachers to offer direct support for students facing behavioral challenges.
  • Communication: Keep the Instructional Leadership Team informed of significant changes regarding students and families, particularly in relation to social-emotional learning.
  • Program Development: Collaborate with the Instructional Leadership Team to create and implement Student Support Plans focused on mental health and social-emotional learning.

Teaching & Learning:

  • Ensure that educational practices are developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive.
  • Design and deliver lessons as directed by the Director of Student Support and Wellness.
  • Communicate clear objectives for lessons and projects to students and families.

Classroom Environment:

  • Establish and maintain positive classroom norms and expectations.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and support regarding student behavior.
  • Adapt teaching methods to cater to diverse learning styles.

Family Engagement:

  • Build professional relationships with families to provide timely feedback on student progress.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss student achievements and set goals.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Lead school-wide initiatives focused on social-emotional learning.
  • Attend faculty meetings and participate in school events.
  • Fulfill administrative tasks accurately and promptly.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in school counseling or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervised counseling experience.
  • Experience working in a school environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
