Key Responsibilities

The K-8 Counselor plays a vital role in promoting self-awareness, social skills, and emotional growth among students. This position involves collaborating with faculty and families to support student well-being and mental health.

Essential Duties:

  • Student Support: Engage with students in various settings, including individual sessions, small groups, and classroom instruction.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers to provide tailored support for students facing behavioral challenges.
  • Communication: Maintain proactive communication with the Instructional Leadership Team regarding significant changes in student behavior or needs.
  • Teaching: Design and deliver lessons that are developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive.
  • Classroom Environment: Establish a positive classroom culture with clear expectations and routines.
  • Parent Engagement: Foster strong relationships with families through regular communication and feedback on student progress.
  • Professional Development: Participate in school-wide initiatives focused on social-emotional learning and wellness.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in school counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervised counseling experience.
  • Experience working in a school environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with diverse student populations.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and commitment to professional growth.

Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily indoor work with occasional outdoor activities.
  • Ability to engage with students at various levels, including physical movement within the classroom.
