Job Title: Product Development Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Product Development Engineer to join our team at Mebane. As a Product Development Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing new products and improving existing ones within our High Horsepower cooling system product lines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and manage product improvement and development activities for new and existing High Horsepower cooling system product lines
  • Create product specific technical content for cooling system product lines that can be communicated to customers and internal manufacturing teams
  • Assist with producing marketing materials for High Horsepower product lines
  • Assist with developing solutions to optimize cost and manufacturability
  • Interface with High Horsepower Manufacturing & Design teams for product and process improvements
  • Maintain a high degree of product and application knowledge
  • Assist with defining assembly testing methods and documentation standards for HHP & Systems products
  • Support business relationship between external customers and Mebane by participating with on-site customer visits and regular collaboration
  • Prepare technical results and assist with technical presentations/proposals to be shared with internal engineering teams and customers
  • Assist Mebane with introduction of new products and technologies within assigned markets
  • Assist in the gathering of customer, market and competitor technology that will further Mebane through customer visits and trade show attendance
  • Assist in maintenance of well documented project files, both written and on-line, that can be easily accessed by other Mebane personnel
Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering degree with 3+ years professional experience
  • Energetic, fast learner, willingness to tackle a wide range of responsibilities
  • Must have a mechanical aptitude with a hands-on approach
  • Able to effectively communicate on the phone with customers, engineers, and suppliers
  • Working knowledge of SolidEdge/SolidWorks or equivalent and excellent understanding of MS Office suite
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Have demonstrated knowledge in development of heat transfer or HVAC systems including design calculations, reliability predictions, design principles, systems engineering, and understanding of manufacturing environment
    • High mechanical aptitude
    • Strong understanding of engineering principles such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, & strength of materials
    • A keen interest in "hands-on" engineering and problem solving
    • Has aptitude to support customer relationships in written and/or oral form such as mutually agreed upon written technical customer specifications
    • Product road mapping and strategy
    • Interpreting voice of the customer and implementing design strategies to product lines and product features
    • Steel fabrication and manufacturing processes
    • Good understanding of interpreting FEA and CFD results and providing guidance for next steps
    • Well organized individual who knows how to set up and manage projects and demonstrates the ability to adhere to and improve processes
    • Good oral and written communication skills and competent with industry known computer software such Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, etcetera
    • Able to support Mebane during routine external customer visits and presentation of technical data
    • Self-starter
    • Entrepreneurial mindset with an appreciation for technology and innovation
Preferred Experience:
  • Basic understanding of internal combustion engines
  • Working knowledge of basic hand tools
  • Water Pumps, Fans, Bearings/Drive Systems, Sheet metal, AC Motors
  • Technical product support experience
