Job Title: General Counsel

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Counsel to join our team at the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). As a key member of our Leadership Team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our legal affairs, protecting our rights, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage all legal work related to operations, personnel, business development, contracts, compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Provide internal legal support, member guidance, and legislative assistance.
  • Oversee association governance, management of regulatory programs, and contract oversight.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Membership in a state bar or the District of Columbia bar.
  • At least ten years of experience as an attorney.
  • Familiarity with legal issues pertaining to 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) nonprofit associations.
  • Experience with federal transportation law and regulations.

Work Location and Schedule:

This position is based in Washington, D.C., with a hybrid work schedule. Employees are required to be in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the flexibility to select a third in-office day. The remaining two workdays can be remote.
