Job Title: Senior Veterinary Advisor

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Veterinary Advisor to join our team at ZemiTek LLC. As a key member of our team, you will provide technical guidance and support to USAID and BHA staff in Washington, DC, and field offices for livestock interventions during disaster responses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical guidance to USAID and BHA staff on livestock interventions during disaster responses
  • Assess and recommend responses to zoonotic disease outbreaks in both the livestock and health sectors
  • Develop strategic plans for livestock interventions for USAID/BHA
  • Work with the BHA Pharmacist to develop a compendium for treating livestock in disaster environments and streamline the approval process for veterinary commodities and pharmaceuticals
  • Support the formulation of technical and policy positions of USAID/BHA relating to livestock through interactions with NGO partners, other donor agencies, and the international humanitarian community
  • Lead and mentor other livestock and agricultural staff within BHA/TPQ
  • Review and comment on proposals submitted by NGO and United Nations partners for humanitarian response and disaster risk reduction in the livestock sector and human health sector
  • Develop programmatic strategies and guidance related to humanitarian programming in the livestock sector in collaboration with USAID/Washington and regional field office staff
  • Analyze emergency outbreaks of livestock and zoonotic diseases and develop guidance for BHA on program priorities and technical recommendations
Requirements:
  • Masters degree in a relevant field and 7+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating agriculture, veterinary, and livestock programs in developing countries
  • Veterinary degree with active license
  • Extensive experience with international livestock systems from both a veterinary and livelihoods perspective
  • Mastery of current issues in international environmental health programs
  • 5+ years of experience in an international or resource-challenged setting
