About the Role

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Counsel to join its Leadership Team. As a key member of the organization, the General Counsel will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of APTA's legal affairs, protecting its rights, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all legal work related to operations, personnel, business development, contracts, compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Provide internal legal support, member guidance, and legislative assistance.
  • Oversee association governance, management of regulatory programs, and contract oversight.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Membership in a state bar or the District of Columbia bar.
  • At least ten years of experience as an attorney.
  • Familiarity with legal issues pertaining to 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) nonprofit associations.
  • Experience with federal transportation law and regulations.
