Travis Association for the Blind/Austin Lighthouse is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for economic and personal independence for people who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf blind. Our mission is to create, sustain, and improve employment for individuals with visual impairments.

Job Summary

The Adaptive Technology Instructor will be responsible for designing, organizing, and delivering training programs for assigned employees. The ideal candidate will have experience in creating and presenting computer training programs to a non-technical audience.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of TWC's customers, and TAB employees progress, performance, and development through individual training plans.
  • Weekly communication with TWC Counselors, TAB Supervisors/Managers to ensure customers/TAB employees adhere to the TWC contract and the Computer Training Policy for the duration of their training.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning.
  • Develop core and/or individualized lesson plans to establish and communicate clear objectives for training.
  • Provide one-on-one or group training in an orderly and professional manner.
  • Recommend appropriate outside training and software as needed to meet training goals.
  • Consistently review and evaluate curriculum to ensure that meets TWC's standards and organizational training standards.
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting on computer equipment used for the program.
  • Promote a safe, effective, and ethical learning environment.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in creating and presenting computer training programs to a non-technical audience.
  • Certified Microsoft trainer preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to:

  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer.
  • Ability to be in a stationary position (stand/sit) for 4-8 hours.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 10-25 lbs. at times.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, adjust position for 50% of time.
  • Ability to work in conditions with varying temperature, including cold and/or heat.
