Job Summary

Penn State Health is seeking a skilled Laboratory Associate to join our team in the Specimen Processing Area. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for receiving and processing laboratory specimens, ensuring accurate identification and acceptability, and preparing specimens for analysis.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and process laboratory specimens, including blood and other body fluids
  • Ensure accurate identification and acceptability of specimens
  • Prepare specimens for analysis, including labeling and packaging
  • Enter orders for laboratory testing into the Lab Information System
  • Enter patient demographic and insurance information into the patient registration system
  • Provide information related to specimen requirements, test availability, and specimen testing status
  • Prepare specimens for referral to outside reference laboratories and ensure all storage requirements are met
Requirements
  • High School Diploma plus additional training or equivalent knowledge required
  • Training of up to 18 months beyond the high school level or equivalent knowledge required
  • Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements
  • Six (6) months job-related experience preferred
