Position Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing laboratory procedures for genetic analysis, ensuring compliance with established laboratory protocols and regulatory standards. This position operates under the guidance of the Laboratory Director and Technical Supervisor.

Essential Qualifications

  • Active licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor with a specialization in Molecular Pathology in the State of Florida.
  • Licensed Medical Technologist in the State of Florida with a focus on Molecular Specialty.
  • Maintains active licensure and good standing throughout employment.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is required; 4+ years is preferred.
  • National certification is mandatory (e.g., ASCP, HEW, NCA, ASMT, AAB or equivalent).
  • Proficient in molecular diagnostic processes, including pipetting, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, and NGS methodologies on Illumina and/or ThermoFisher platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate support to testing personnel during laboratory operations, offering on-site, telephonic, or electronic consultation to address technical issues in line with established policies.
  • Oversee daily operations and direct supervision of high complexity testing performed by laboratory staff.
  • Ensure adherence to a Quality Control program that meets CLIA and CAP standards, reviewing and maintaining compliance with the QC Program.
  • Perform the duties of a licensed Medical Technologist as necessary.
  • Guarantee accurate and efficient recording and reporting of laboratory results.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Review documentation such as daily logs, quality control records, and inventory levels.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and ensure that acceptable analytic performance levels are consistently achieved.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Supervisor to address technical challenges and ensure the proper functioning of testing systems.
  • Adhere to all OSHA, CLIA, and State regulations.
  • Engage in departmental Quality Management/Quality Assurance/Quality Control processes under the oversight of the Laboratory Director.
  • Demonstrate and ensure the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct daily reviews of instrumentation, processes, reagents, and storage to ensure compliance.
  • Possess knowledge of laboratory techniques and the ability to operate laboratory instruments effectively.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Adhere to standards and regulations set forth by accrediting agencies (FDA, CAP, DNV, AHCA, CMS, NYSDOH, etc.).

Preferred Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Physical or Biological Sciences, or a related field.
  • FL State Medical Technologist License in Molecular areas is required.
  • 2+ years of experience in a high-complexity clinical laboratory with a focus on Molecular diagnostics is required.
