Position Overview
The Lead Supervisor for Advanced Molecular Laboratory is responsible for overseeing laboratory testing related to clinical genetic analysis, ensuring compliance with laboratory policies and the regulations set forth by licensing authorities. This role operates under the guidance of the Laboratory Director and Technical Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Clinical Laboratory Supervisor license with a specialization in Molecular Pathology in the State of Florida.
- Must hold a Medical Technologist license in the State of Florida with a focus on Molecular Specialty.
- Maintain active licensure in good standing throughout employment.
- A minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience is required; 4+ years is preferred.
- National certification is mandatory (e.g., ASCP, HEW, NCA, ASMT, AAB or equivalent).
- Experience in all aspects of molecular diagnostics, including pipetting, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, and NGS methodologies on Illumina and/or ThermoFisher platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide continuous accessibility to testing personnel during operational hours for on-site, telephonic, or electronic consultation to address technical issues in line with established policies.
- Oversee the daily operations of high complexity testing, ensuring direct supervision of testing personnel.
- Implement and adhere to a Quality Control program that meets CLIA and CAP standards, regularly reviewing compliance with the QC Program.
- Perform the duties of a licensed Medical Technologist as necessary.
- Ensure accurate and efficient recording and reporting of laboratory results.
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance on all laboratory equipment, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
- Review documentation such as daily logs, quality control records, and inventory management.
- Maintain up-to-date records and ensure acceptable levels of analytical performance are consistently achieved.
- Collaborate with the Technical Supervisor to resolve technical challenges and ensure the proper functioning of testing systems.
- Adhere to all OSHA, CLIA, and State regulations.
- Engage in departmental Quality Management/Quality Assurance/Quality Control processes as directed by the Laboratory Director.
- Demonstrate and enforce the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Conduct daily reviews of instrumentation, processes, reagents, and storage for compliance.
- Possess knowledge of laboratory techniques and the operation of laboratory instruments.
- Uphold the confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Comply with standards and regulations set forth by accrediting agencies (FDA, CAP, DNV, AHCA, CMS, NYSDOH, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Physical, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
- FL State Medical Technologist License in Molecular areas is required.
- 2+ years of experience in a high-complexity clinical laboratory with a focus on Molecular techniques is essential.
