Aviation Safety Inspector

This position is responsible for ensuring the airworthiness of aircraft operated by the USDA, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing airworthiness safety programs, conducting inspections, and providing guidance to agency and contract pilots and maintenance professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Develop airworthiness safety program requirements for WS aviation activities.
- Assist the WS Aviation Training and Operations Center Manager in conducting investigations.
- Assure that agency contractors are properly and adequately organized, staffed, and equipped.
- Conduct inspections to verify certification requirements for all agency and contract aircraft.
- Evaluate requests from agency and contract pilots/mechanics to make alterations to aircraft and approve or disapprove these requests.
- Provide guidance to agency and contract pilots and designated maintenance professionals regarding maintenance procedures and record keeping.
- Review and determine adequacy of manuals associated with the WS airworthiness safety and maintenance programs and revisions.
- Analyze trends to detect a deterioration in the airworthiness safety and maintenance program.
- Must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Individuals who were born male after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
