Respiratory Therapist

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Western Convalescent Hospital, a skilled nursing facility dedicated to providing exceptional care to our residents.
As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality respiratory care to our residents, working closely with our interdisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:- Set up and operate various types of respiratory care equipment to diagnose and treat respiratory disease and/or illness in the sub-acute unit.
- Assist in providing a clean, safe, dignified, happy, and healthy environment for residents by performing duties such as:
- Explaining treatments, tests, and equipment to residents.
- Conducting physician-prescribed treatments, including IPPB, oxygen devices, nebulizers, and ultrasonic nebulizers.
- Performing chest physical therapy treatments, including percussion, postural drainage, and suctioning.
- Setting up, operating, and monitoring ventilators.
- Recording respiratory care records and resident charts.
- Maintain and record daily ventilator monitoring and ventilator weaning logs.
- Perform Pulse Oximetry and set up oxygen via nasal cannula and simple face mask.
- Assist residents with uncomplicated transfers in and out of bed.
- Report to relief personnel, condition of residents and treatments to be administered/conducted.
- Process respiratory therapy equipment, cleaning as required.
- Conduct regular rounds, checking residents' oxygen equipment, replacing humidifiers as necessary, and spot-checking other respiratory therapy equipment.
- Read prescriptions, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment.
- Determine the most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications that may be needed.
- Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
- Operate equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment, administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients, and monitor patient physiological responses to therapy.
- Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and assist patients in performing breathing exercises.
- Perform pulmonary function tests to be used by physicians in diagnosis of cases.
- Consult with physicians in the event of adverse reactions.
- Maintain patient charts that contain pertinent identification and therapy information.
- Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a collaborative working relationship with the nursing staff, subacute care unit, and Clinical Care Coordinator, Director of Nursing, and Administrator.
- Graduation from an accredited school of respiratory therapy.
- Previous clinical experience in respiratory therapy and caring for patients with technology dependency.
- Current, verifiable Respiratory Care License in the State of California and successful completion of facility ventilator class.
- Current Basic Life Support Certification.
- Available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.
- Knowledge of OBRA and Title XXII guidelines for LTC.
- Knowledge of long-term care resident needs and ability to deal with a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to speak Spanish or any other non-English language helpful but not required.
$32 - $36 / hour, depending on a number of factors, including location, regularly scheduled work shift, knowledge, skills, experience, and expertise.
