Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Head Teacher, the Early Childhood Educator plays a crucial role in delivering a high-quality, developmentally suitable childcare program. This position involves supervising children's activities, as well as managing student staff and volunteers at the Children's Center. The educator is dedicated to fostering a safe, healthy, and imaginative environment while actively participating in curriculum planning and assessing children's growth.

Core Responsibilities

Qualifications and Experience
  • Completion of high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 12 semester units in early childhood education or development is required; 24 semester units are preferred.
  • Acquisition of a California Child Development permit within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Current certification in Adult and Pediatric CPR, First Aid, and AED from the American Red Cross.
  • Completion of 15 hours of Health and Safety Training.
Experience Requirements
  • At least one year of experience working with preschool-aged children or infants and toddlers in an educational setting.
  • Successful completion of tuberculosis testing, physical examination, and fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice.
Physical and Knowledge Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and engage in physical activities with children.
  • Proficient understanding of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • General knowledge of office methods and computer systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with parents and address their concerns.
  • Capacity to maintain a collaborative and productive work environment.
Supervisory Duties
  • Oversee Children's Center Student Assistants and volunteers.
  • Conduct meetings, provide feedback on student performance, and monitor daily operations.
Curriculum and Classroom Management
  • Assist in the supervision and guidance of the children's overall program.
  • Help prepare developmental assessments and children's portfolios.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of age-appropriate curriculum.
  • Assume classroom supervision responsibilities in the absence of the Head Teacher.
  • Maintain classroom health and safety standards.
  • Assist in setting quarterly classroom goals and objectives.
  • Evaluate children's progress and needs.
Parental Engagement
  • Support the management of parent communications and concerns.
  • Assist in organizing parent education meetings.
  • Participate in or lead parent-teacher conferences under the supervision of the Head Teacher.
Assessment and Improvement
  • Participate in the assessment of programs and services, including goal setting and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Engage in overall assessment planning and goal setting.
Diversity and Inclusion Commitment
  • Support practices aimed at eliminating bias in policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate awareness of personal biases and commit to understanding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with the director to review and improve departmental policies related to diversity and inclusion.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Represent the organization on relevant committees.
  • Engage in continuous professional development.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and contribute to discussions.
  • Comply with mandated reporting requirements under applicable laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Information
  • Starting hourly rate: $20.87
  • Hourly pay range: $20.87 - $29.22
