Teaching Assistant for the University Writing Center

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our team at the University of California. The successful candidate will provide academic writing support to graduate students and undergraduate writing consultants, while also contributing to the development of writing programs and services.
Key Responsibilities
The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for:
- Providing one-on-one consultations with graduate student writers to improve their academic writing skills.
- Developing and leading workshops, writing groups, and other events to support graduate student writers.
- Collaborating with the University Writing Center Director to support the center's operations and staff.
- Participating in mandatory orientation and training prior to the start of instruction.
- Attending bi-weekly staff meetings for University Writing Center student employees.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, the candidate must have:
- A commitment to a fixed semester schedule of 20 hours per week.
- Experience with and understanding of multiple academic genres.
- Maintenance of a qualifying grade point average.
- Academically eligible to hold the appointment.
- Commitment to equity and inclusion, and serving the needs of a culturally, linguistically, and educationally diverse community.
- Ability to work 20 hours per week for the duration of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience with and/or sincere interest in pedagogy and mentoring, as well as a strong commitment to equity and inclusion.
