The Patient Financial Services Specialist is responsible for assessing patient financial obligations based on their insurance benefits and informing patients of their financial responsibilities prior to scheduled elective procedures. This role ensures that collection arrangements are established before services are provided.


This position involves verifying insurance eligibility and benefits for urgent and emergent admissions, procedures, or other services, ensuring that patients or their responsible parties are informed of their financial responsibilities.

The specialist will verify and secure accurate patient demographic and insurance information, updating patient accounts as necessary.

Assists patients in making arrangements for their financial responsibilities by the time of discharge for urgent or emergent services.


Identifies and refers patients for potential assistance through state, county, or other government programs, as well as Charity or Discounts in accordance with facility policies.

The Patient Financial Services Specialist collaborates closely with Case Management to secure Medicaid/Medical treatment authorizations as required. This role demands effective communication skills, both verbal and written, along with proficiency in mathematical skills.

Qualifications:
Education and Work Experience

Knowledge of standard insurance companies and verification protocols.

Familiarity with authorization processes for all payers.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Customer service experience is essential.

High School Graduate or GED Equivalent Required.
