Job Summary

The Emergency Department Technician plays a vital role in providing patient care in a fast-paced environment. As a key member of the patient care team, this individual will assist registered nurses in delivering high-quality care to patients. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes
  • Observe patient conditions, recognize changes, and report findings to registered nurses
  • Escort patients to other departments as needed
  • Clean and maintain equipment and supplies
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining stock items
  • Perform special procedures, such as venipuncture, splinting, and nonsterile dressing changes
  • Set up for Emergency Department procedures and assist registered nurses as directed
  • Operate patient monitoring equipment, record rhythm strips, and run 12-lead EKGs
  • Perform phlebotomy, collect laboratory specimens, and insert saline locks under the direction of registered nurses
  • Adapt patient care methods to accommodate unique patient needs
  • Perform clerical and non-nursing duties, such as serving as a receptionist and transcribing orders
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • 1-2 years of patient care experience in an acute care hospital or military medic setting, or an Active EMT license in lieu of experience
  • Current BLS certification required
  • EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license preferred or required in lieu of experience
