The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI), recognized as the Best Rehabilitation Hospital in Indiana for 2022 and 2023, is dedicated to delivering exceptional rehabilitation services to individuals facing significant injuries or illnesses. Our expertise encompasses brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, and complex medical conditions. RHI stands as the sole Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model System in Indiana and is among only 16 in the United States. Our facility on the west side of Indianapolis focuses on providing inpatient and outpatient evidence-based, patient-centered therapy for individuals aged 15 and older. POSITION SUMMARY


The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, prioritizing customer service for all patients, staff, and visitors. The EVS Floor Technician will exemplify the principles of service excellence, lead by example, and mentor colleagues in their assigned responsibilities. This role requires an understanding of HIPAA regulations and the importance of patient safety as a fundamental response according to RHI's evidence-based practices. Encouraging patient involvement in their care is a key strategy for enhancing safety.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Complete all cleaning tasks in designated areas within the allocated time frame, ensuring compliance with job standards through visual inspections.
2. Maintain hard surface floors by performing dry, damp, and wet mopping, as well as mixing and applying cleaning, stripping, waxing, and sealing chemicals according to manufacturer guidelines.
3. Operate electrical floor scrubbing and buffing equipment while adhering to safety protocols.
4. Conduct hand cleaning of surfaces, including baseboards, in preparation for floor finishing.
5. Utilize wet/dry vacuums during floor stripping and ensure safety by barricading areas.
6. Maintain carpeted areas through spot cleaning, shampooing, and extraction, following an established schedule and using chemicals safely.
7. Ensure that all equipment and supplies are in good working condition or properly tagged for repair.
8. Transport equipment as necessary using hospital-owned or leased vehicles.


Additional responsibilities within the Housekeeping Department include:
1. Assisting in moving furniture for floor maintenance or hospital events.
2. Cleaning up spills, including hazardous and infectious waste, while using appropriate protective items and disposal methods.
3. Assisting in the transportation of bio-hazardous waste, soiled linen, and trash to designated storage areas.
4. Reporting equipment, furniture, or building repair needs and potential hazards to the Maintenance Technician.
5. Supporting the ESTM with general cleaning duties and other related tasks as required.
6. Participating in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities to ensure compliance with Hospital, JCAHO, CARF, and other quality standards.


QUALIFICATIONS

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. A willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment is required. Candidates should possess alertness and interpersonal skills. All Environmental Services Technicians must be capable of operating telephones, hand-held radios, pagers, mops, brooms, cleaning carts, vacuum cleaners, and hand-held fire extinguishers during their shifts. Team members must also be prepared to assist with evacuations during emergencies.


EXPERIENCE

Previous housekeeping experience in either a hotel or hospital setting is strongly preferred.


EDUCATION

A High School diploma or equivalent is required.


WORK SCHEDULE

1st shift with mandatory weekend availability.
