The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI), recognized as the Best Rehabilitation Hospital in Indiana for 2022 and 2023, is dedicated to delivering exceptional rehabilitation services to individuals confronting significant injuries or illnesses. Our expertise encompasses brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, and complex medical conditions. RHI stands as the sole Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model System in Indiana and is among only 16 in the United States. Our facility on the west side of Indianapolis is committed to providing inpatient and outpatient evidence-based, patient-centered therapy for individuals aged 15 and older. POSITION SUMMARY
The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, with a strong focus on customer service for all patients, staff, and visitors. The EVS Floor Technician will embody the principles of service excellence, leading by example, and guiding others in their assigned responsibilities. This role requires an understanding of the individual’s responsibilities concerning HIPAA regulations and access to Protected Health Information as outlined in hospital-wide policies. Every staff member at RHI is committed to prioritizing patient safety in accordance with evidence-based practices, encouraging patients to engage actively in their own care as a key strategy for safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Complete all cleaning tasks in designated areas within the allocated time frame, ensuring visual inspections demonstrate compliance with job standards.
2. Maintain and care for hard surface floors through dry, damp, and wet mopping, as well as mixing and applying cleaning, stripping, waxing, and sealing chemicals according to manufacturer guidelines.
3. Operate electrical floor scrubbing and buffing equipment while adhering to safety protocols.
4. Perform hand cleaning of surfaces such as baseboards and other areas in preparation for final floor finishing.
5. Utilize wet/dry vacuums during floor stripping processes, ensuring areas are barricaded for safety.
6. Maintain carpeted areas through spot cleaning, shampooing, and extraction as per established schedules, safely mixing and applying chemicals, and operating various carpet cleaning equipment.
7. Ensure that all equipment and supplies are kept in good working condition or tagged for repair.
8. Transport equipment as necessary using hospital-owned or leased vehicles.
Additionally, support other responsibilities within the Housekeeping Department:
1. Assist in moving furniture as required for floor maintenance or hospital events.
2. Address spills, including hazardous and infectious waste, using proper disposal methods and protective equipment.
3. Aid in the transportation of bio-hazardous waste, soiled linen, and trash from collection points to designated storage areas.
4. Report equipment, furniture, fixture, and building repair needs or potential hazards to the Maintenance Technician.
5. Collaborate with the ESTM on general cleaning tasks and perform other related duties as necessary.
6. Participate in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities to ensure compliance with Hospital, JCAHO, CARF, and other quality standards or regulations.
7. Employ appropriate techniques to minimize accidents and injuries related to unsafe practices.
8. Proactively seek information and resources, including the Environment of Care Manual, to enhance safe performance of duties and contribute to RHI's culture of safety.
9. Focus on delivering customer satisfaction as a primary goal in all interactions, prioritizing the needs of patients, co-workers, visitors, vendors, and physicians.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. Ability to work effectively in a team environment is required. Alertness and interpersonal skills are necessary. All Environmental Services Technicians must be capable of operating telephones, hand-held radios, pagers, mops, brooms, cleaning carts, vacuum cleaners, and hand-held fire extinguishers during their shifts. Team members must also be prepared to assist in evacuations during emergencies or disasters.
EXPERIENCE
Prior experience in housekeeping, preferably in a hotel or hospital setting, is strongly preferred.
EDUCATION
A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Hours: 1st shift with mandatory weekend availability.
