Job Summary

GAI Consultants is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our team in Indianapolis or Fishers office. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting stormwater and other regulated waters permitting documentation, including erosion and sediment control inspection, stormwater pollution prevention plan modifications, and documentation of environmental resources for Transportation-related projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct construction inspections, erosion control monitoring, and environmental marking and staking
  • Prepare permit applications and reviews
  • Assist with field data collection and wetland delineations
  • Gain knowledge of regulatory requirements and complete basic regulatory agency applications
  • Assist with environmental report preparation and other NEPA work as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • 4+ Years Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences or similar field of study
Technical Skills
  • Working towards leading field studies and data collection
  • Generates well written, technically sound documents with little assistance from senior staff and requiring minor edits
  • Agency interface
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Acquires ability to research Federal, State, and local applicable environmental regulations and guidance and applies them to project specifics
  • Extensive knowledge of wetland delineations, wetland restoration and wetland design, ecological field surveys, endangered species surveys
Working Conditions
  • Occasional travel required for fieldwork and construction site visits
  • Most travel will be within the State of Indiana
  • All-season safe-condition travel is a requisite
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional standing, walking, climbing, or balancing
  • Lifting or moving up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including a hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, etc.
