General Overview

As a key member of the healthcare team, the Lead Outpatient Licensed Practical Nurse provides essential clinical supervision and direction to the assigned nursing staff. This role may involve participation in annual performance evaluations, problem resolution, and quality enhancement initiatives within the practice. The nurse ensures the delivery of safe, therapeutic, and efficient patient care services.

This position operates at an intermediate nursing level, assisting in the planning and execution of patient care based on sound clinical judgment, knowledge, skills, and experience.

Nursing services are rendered in compliance with the regulations set forth by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

This role typically reports to the Clinical Nursing Coordinator, particularly in practices with multiple locations and a significant number of direct report clinical staff.

Responsibilities and oversight may vary based on the specific practice or specialty.

Work Schedule:
Full-time
Monday to Friday (Day Shift)

Key Responsibilities:
Serves as a Physician Office Nurse.

Ensures that all necessary documentation for quality control inspections is completed, including temperature logs, expiration date checks, and the upkeep of emergency supplies and equipment.

Assists in the referral process by addressing inquiries from other staff members regarding referrals.
Handles clinical supply ordering and receiving.
Acts as a clinical resource for both staff and patients, delivering high-quality customer service to internal and external clients.
Ensures that clinical personnel are adequately trained in Point of Care testing and equipment monitoring.
Oversees Point of Care quality controls to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
Evaluates the efficiency of clinical workflows within the office and reports any identified issues.

Regularly reviews monthly clinical checklists to confirm that delegated quality checks are performed and addresses any discrepancies promptly.

Communicates timely with the Clinical Nursing Coordinator and/or Practice Manager regarding any clinical concerns or issues.

Facilitates staff training on clinical updates or changes communicated during monthly meetings or by upper management.

Ensures prompt follow-up for all Coumadin patients, including oversight of the Coagulation Tracker in primary care settings.
For practices participating in the VFC (Vaccines for Children) Program:

Responsibilities Include:
  • Acting as the primary contact for VFC surveys and vaccine ordering, including preparing and submitting vaccine reports to the state.
  • Monitoring refrigerator temperatures for both vaccines and specimens.
  • Regularly verifying the completion of refrigerator logs to ensure readings are taken twice daily by designated clinicians and remain within acceptable ranges.
  • Reporting any out-of-range temperature readings to the Clinical Nursing Coordinator or Office/Practice Manager.

Maintains established policies, procedures, objectives, quality assessments, safety standards, and infection control measures.
Continues professional development and growth.

Provides oversight of clinical staff, ensuring accountability for timely completion of job duties while communicating effectively with the Clinical Nurse Coordinator, Office Manager, or Practice Manager.

Serves as a reference for clinical staff and guides the workflow within the clinical area.
Assists office staff in documenting safety events and patient complaints in the SRS system, aiding the Clinical Nursing Coordinator or Office/Practice Manager in reporting and resolving issues as needed.
Supports the Office/Practice Manager with personnel and staffing inquiries, and may assist in conducting annual performance evaluations as requested.
May assist with timekeeping for clinical staff, if designated by the Office/Practice Manager.
Precepts and trains new clinical employees, serving as the onsite resource for clinical externs.
Assists with clinical staff scheduling, including managing requests for time off and float assignments.

Responsible for adjusting clinical staff schedules to accommodate call-offs as necessary.

Delivers exceptional service to all customers, promotes teamwork, and practices fiscal responsibility through continuous improvement and innovation.

Minimum Education:
Associate's Degree or Certificate of completion from an accredited LPN program. Required or
Diploma from an accredited LPN program. Required

Work Experience:
Minimum of 1 year in a WellSpan Medical Group office. Required

Licenses:
Licensed Practical Nurse upon hire required or
Multi-State Licensed Practical Nurse upon hire required and
Basic Life Support certification upon hire required

Courses and Training:
Completion of the WellSpan Medical Group Preceptor Class upon hire required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
