Position Overview:
The Anesthesia Support Specialist is a vital member of the anesthesia care team, contributing to patient safety and care during various anesthesia procedures. This role involves collaboration with anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists to ensure optimal conditions for patient management.

Work Schedule:
Full-time, 32 hours per week, with afternoon shifts from 2:30 PM to 11 PM. Rotating weekends, holidays, and on-call duties (within a 60-minute response time) are essential components of this position.

Qualifications:
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience:
A minimum of one year in a dynamic clinical environment is necessary. Prior experience as an Anesthesia Support Specialist or enrollment in an Anesthesia Technician program is preferred.

Preferred Education:
Completion of a one-year formal education program focusing on medical terminology, health sciences, EKG, or pharmacology is advantageous.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in critical care units within a hospital setting is highly regarded.

Certifications:
Annual BLS certification is mandatory. Certification from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians is desirable.

Key Responsibilities:
Assisting Anesthesia Professionals:
- Anticipate and assist with invasive procedures as per the operating room schedule.
- Prepare and drape patients for invasive monitoring tasks.
- Support procedures such as pulmonary artery catheterization, central venous access, fiber optic intubation, and managing complex airway situations.

Technical Support:
- Ensure all necessary equipment is available in each operating room.
- Prepare and assemble equipment for arterial, central venous, and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring.

Maintenance and Organization:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of anesthesia workstations on a daily basis.
- Manage and replace sharps disposal systems as required.
- Rotate supply stock in workrooms and anesthesia workstations.

Essential Duties:
- Stock operating rooms with essential anesthesia equipment and supplies.
- Clean anesthesia equipment post-procedures.
- Ensure anesthesia machines are operational and ready for use.

Medication Management:
- Refill medications for patient use as necessary.
- Review computer reports to manage medication inventory levels.
- Process patient medication orders based on computer-generated reports and return unused medications to storage.
