Job Summary

The April Parker Foundation is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Community Intervention Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in preventing gun violence and improving the lives of individuals and families in the North Long Beach community.

As a Community Intervention Specialist, you will engage in street outreach, build relationships with community members, and provide coaching and support to help individuals navigate complex systems and social interactions. You will also participate in local events and build trust with community members to effectively prevent and intervene in gun violence.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong understanding of community dynamics, cultural awareness, and a passion for making a positive impact. If you are a team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding opportunity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct street outreach in high-risk areas to identify and engage with youth at risk of gun violence
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members, leaders, and stakeholders to prevent and intervene in gun violence
  • Provide coaching and support to individuals to help them navigate complex systems and social interactions
  • Participate in local events to build trust and engage with community members
  • Collaborate with the GVRT and LBASC-4 Program Manager to share knowledge and best practices
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in community outreach or social services preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of community resources and services
  • Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach
