Job Summary

Covenant Health (Tennessee) is seeking a highly skilled Inpatient Coding Auditor and Educator to join our team. As a key member of our coding and compliance department, you will be responsible for performing complex internal coding audits, providing education and training to inpatient coders, and serving as a resource to coding, CDI, and quality teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coding Audits and Education
    • Identify and evaluate company risk areas and develop coding auditing procedures related to documentation and reimbursement.
    • Work with coders to educate and provide feedback, and develop proactive training programs.
    • Review and analyze information published by CMS and the OIG to ensure compliance with coding, billing, and reimbursement guidelines.
    • Perform research and analysis of ICD-10 and ICD-10-PCS coding to ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance payers.
    • Communicate the results of coding audits and consulting projects to coding management, audit committees, and other departments.
  • General Responsibilities
    • Maintain professional growth and development through continuing education, seminars, and professional affiliations.
    • Recognize situations requiring supervision and guidance, and seek appropriate resources.
Requirements

We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in acute care coding, both inpatient and outpatient, and/or physician practice. A good working knowledge of healthcare billing, Medicare/Medicaid billing guidelines, and other third-party payer rules and regulations is required. Certification in a field of study, such as RHIT, RHIA, AAPC, CPC, or CPMA, is also preferred.
