We are seeking a highly skilled Endoscopy Technician to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. As an Endoscopy Technician, you will play a critical role in assisting endoscopists and the endoscopy team in the Endoscopy Department.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with multiple types of endoscopic procedures, handling instruments and anticipating the needs of the endoscopists, assisting as directed.
- Clean and disinfect all equipment according to hospital policies and procedures, testing disinfectant solutions for effectiveness daily and recording results.
- Re-supply procedure rooms with standard supplies, maintaining endoscopy instruments and specialty equipment, ensuring that endoscopes and related equipment are in good working condition.
- Prepare for scheduled endoscopic procedures, ensuring the necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and ready for use.
- Assist in transportation of patients, via wheelchair or stretcher, within the department and hospital when necessary, verifying patients' identity and assisting with lifting and positioning of patients for endoscopy procedures.
- Observe patient condition while in the procedure room and report any changes to the RN, anesthesia personnel, or physician, observing patients for any unusual signs of distress.
- Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique and identify and correct any breaks in technique, utilizing universal precautions according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment, maintaining work and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition, ensuring equipment and supplies are stored securely.
- Assist in trial and evaluation of new products and provide input to manager.
- Orient new personnel to endoscopy technician role and provide feedback on progress of orientee to preceptor and/or manager.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six to twelve months of related work experience in a hospital or patient care setting.
- Completion of Anatomy and Physiology preferred.
