POSITION SUMMARY: The Substance Use Counselor will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive dual-diagnosis care within the outpatient clinic, focusing on the intertwined needs of substance use and mental health for clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Deliver integrated care that effectively addresses both substance use and mental health challenges faced by clients.
  2. Employ a client-focused methodology to conduct intake evaluations, provide individual, group, and family therapy, and manage cases with a strong emphasis on holistic and harm reduction strategies for treatment and recovery.
  3. Collaborate with the Program Director to foster a safe, welcoming, and supportive atmosphere that encourages clients on their recovery journey.
  4. Facilitate therapeutic and recreational groups and activities that enhance clients' overall well-being.
  5. Maintain precise and thorough client documentation and ensure timely data entry into the client management system and other reporting tools.
  6. Develop treatment and discharge plans along with all necessary documentation in compliance with relevant regulations and organizational policies.
  7. Engage in all client and volunteer activities, ensuring the program is well-prepared for meals, award ceremonies, holiday events, and other initiatives.
  8. Conduct toxicology monitoring as required.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree is required; a Bachelor's degree in social work or a related counseling field is preferred.
  • Licensure such as LMSW, LMHC, or CASAC-T/CASAC certification is mandatory.
  • Experience with the dually diagnosed adult population is essential.
  • Understanding and belief in the harm reduction model is crucial.
  • Awareness of how homelessness intersects with substance use and mental health issues is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with the housing placement and resource system is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in computer usage is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are necessary; bilingual abilities in Spanish are a plus.
  • Prior experience with client management systems is an asset.
  • Personal attributes of integrity, credibility, and a strong commitment to the mission of the organization are essential.

COMPENSATION: The salary range is $50,000 to $60,000 annually.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: Signing bonuses may be available.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regular use of near vision for computer operation is required.
  • Routine use of office equipment, including computers and telephones, is necessary.
