Job Title: Traffic Engineer II/III

Join the City of Chesapeake's Department of Public Works as a Traffic Engineer II/III, where you will play a crucial role in shaping the city's transportation infrastructure. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the Traffic Calming Program, reviewing Traffic Impact Analyses, and ensuring the smooth operation of our traffic signal systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the Traffic Calming Program to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow
  • Review Traffic Impact Analyses to identify potential traffic congestion issues
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and implement traffic signal timing plans
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience for Engineer II and 5 years for Engineer III, with a strong background in traffic engineering and modeling
  • Proficiency in traffic engineering software and modeling tools, such as Synchro, VISSIM, and AutoCAD
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets City Driving Standards
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license desired for Engineer II, and required for Engineer III
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Virginia DEQ Certified Plan Reviewer and/or Program Administrator for SWM
  • Experience with traffic signal timing and system operations
