Mission Enabled Products (MEP), a fully owned division of Northrop Grumman Space Systems, is currently in search of a skilled Senior CNC Machining Specialist to contribute to Propulsion in Commerce, CA.

Overview


Reporting to the Machining Manager, the CNC Machining Specialist will oversee and facilitate all machining operations related to product manufacturing.

This includes the machining of delicate ceramic materials containing lead oxides and the capacity to manage all fragile components throughout the assembly process.


PLEASE NOTE:
This role will transition to a second shift position following a 60-day training period on the first shift. The hours for this position will be from 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate various machine tools, including GN grinders, IWT wire saws, and Haas machining centers, to manufacture ceramic components to precise tolerances and specifications.
  • Program CNC machinery by inputting instructions, including zero and reference points; establishing tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; and validating part programs.
  • Conduct machine setups by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers, as well as indicating vises.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and specifications.
  • Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces, ensuring adherence to international standards.
  • Utilize a range of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Determine necessary materials, parts, and equipment.
  • Set up and operate any type of precision machine tool to create original parts, tools, mechanisms, and devices.
  • Address challenges related to work-holding arrangements, unusual materials, machine settings, and tools.
  • Ensure safe operations by following safety protocols and regulations.
  • Maintain continuity across work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs.
  • Document actions by completing production work instructions.
  • Enhance job knowledge by engaging in educational opportunities and reviewing technical publications.
  • Review drawings and create sketches as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 5+ years of experience in CNC Machining and Programming.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings and blueprints.
  • Experience with basic hand tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective verbal/written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in a mechanical or machining-related field or 7 years of machining and programming experience.
  • Ability to layout own work.
  • Expertise in ASME Y, Dimensioning, and Tolerancing specifications.
  • Proven experience in machining ceramic materials, such as alumina and silicon carbide.
  • Proficiency with Mastercam, Surf CAM, or equivalent CNC software.
  • Experience with Veri cut is a plus.
  • Set up and operate a variety of machine tools.
  • 4 years of additional education and/or CNC machine experience.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word is essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, and bend for extended periods.

Salary Range:
$57,800 - $96,300


The salary range provided serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position, as well as the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may qualify for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to recognize individual contributions and allow employees to share in company success. Employees in Vice President or Director roles may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
