The University of Virginia is seeking a skilled Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technician to join the Design Services team within Facilities Management. The successful candidate will fill one of these positions based on their experience, education, skills, and abilities.

Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare construction documents for HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection design with oversight from senior team members.
  • Confirm existing conditions from drawing archives and site visits.
  • Draw setup, drafting, and modeling using Revit for most projects.
  • Adhere to and assist in developing department standards.
  • Participate in meetings with project managers, consulting architects and engineers, University end-users and staff, and others.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of mechanical or electrical design experience.
  • Proficiency in drafting mechanical or electrical systems (Revit preferred).
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Use of critical thinking and the ability to communicate ideas.
  • Ability to meet preset deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of mechanical or electrical engineering concepts and principles.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology, including design software, to perform engineering analysis and prepare construction documents.
  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders to present design options and explain selected solutions.
  • Excellent time management skills including the ability to manage individual's work across multiple concurrent project schedules.
Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $24.03 to $30.50 per hour ($50,000 - $63,440 Annually), commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits.

Physical Demands:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers, however, regular visits to inspect existing buildings construction sites will be required. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
