Job Summary:

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety at the Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Specialist to support the promotion of a safe and compliant work environment across the organization. This position will work collaboratively with occupational safety and health professionals to identify and mitigate potential hazards, develop and implement safety protocols, and provide training and education to employees.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct workplace assessments to identify potential hazards and develop recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures to mitigate potential hazards.
  • Provide training and education to employees on safety procedures and protocols.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of ergonomics programs to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as health science, engineering, or occupational health and safety.
  • 2+ years of experience in a related field, such as occupational health and safety, ergonomics, or environmental health.
  • Strong knowledge of safety protocols and procedures, including OSHA regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Certification in a related field, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
  • Experience with ergonomic software and equipment.
